Conquer Your OCD
(Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
Offering Online Therapy Across California & In-Person Therapy in Roseville, CA
I help you regain control of your life from obsessions and compulsions.
You’ve always had these thoughts that take over. Thoughts that run over and over and over in your head. It feels like there is only one way to get your brain to let go.
But the compulsions are making it harder and harder to do the things you need to do. Like get out of the house on time for work or school, and socialize the way that you would like.
The obsessions seem to come from nowhere, and lately they’ve been happening more often and getting stronger. Sometimes your logical brain knows the compulsions won’t help -and sometimes it doesn’t- but your brain won’t stop until you do the thing that relieves the intense pressure.
Sometimes the compulsions don’t work, and you have to do them repeatedly to get some momentary relief.
There are periods where the obsessions are gone for a long while, or you can just ignore them when they pop into your head. But other times they are sooo intense and there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
The scary part is that the bad times are getting worse, and you’re feeling more and more powerless against them. The thoughts are more intrusive, the compulsions even stronger, and they are interfering with life more and more.
You’re exhausted, and the obsessions and compulsions take up so much of your day.
You’re tired of your day getting taken over. You’re tired of feeling so much shame, feeling like there is something wrong with you.
Tired of trying to fight it, and at the same time, feeling so stuck and helpless against it. Tired of feeling like there is nothing you can do.
You’ve tried self-help, medication, and therapy, but it's hard to get your hopes up to have them disappointed. You do the work, but always hit a wall, or it just doesn’t work.
Therapy seems hopeful, but just sitting around and talking doesn’t seem to make anything change. When the therapists have given you advice, sometimes they just don’t seem possible or helpful.
Your OCD is getting worse, and you are ready to try again, but you want something different than the therapists you’ve tried in the past.
Get Past Your OCD
You want to just live your life in peace.
You’d love to feel like you are the one in control.
You want to do the everyday things that everyone else does.
You want to silence the thoughts telling you to do things you don’t need or want to do.
More Than Exposure and Response Therapy for OCD
As a therapist who specializes in obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD, I’ve found that there isn’t just one treatment that works for everyone.
I’ve also found that just because you’ve tried OCD treatment with one therapist and been unsuccessful doesn’t mean that you won’t have better results with someone else. Some therapists are better at one type of treatment than another, and the therapists themselves really can make the difference.
I’ve had a lot of success working with OCD with these two treatment options;
Exposure and Response Therapy
Exposure therapy is the most commonly recommended treatment for Obsessive-compulsive disorder. When done correctly, it can be highly effective and really make a huge difference in your life.
While in Exposure Therapy, you face the triggers of your obsessions and compulsions in a safe, supportive environment.
Through practice and repetition, you teach your brain that there is nothing to be afraid of and that your compulsions are not necessary.
As I mentioned before, Exposure therapy is highly effective and, because of that, is the highest recommended treatment for OCD. But many of my clients have tried it with other therapists or on their own and did not have the results they were hoping for.
Just because it hasn’t worked in the past doesn’t mean that you should give up on it, as sometimes the actual therapist is what makes the difference.
But Exposure therapy is not for everyone, and if you don’t feel like this is the right approach for you, I also offer a different approach.
Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)
Traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where we focus on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts, behaviors, and feelings, is not effective for most cases of OCD.
Inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on the purpose of the obsessions in the OCD cycle. This therapeutic approach helps you to learn about and dissect the doubts that create the obsessions in the first place.
This structured approach to OCD is proving to be an effective treatment for OCD for many people. You work through modules, helping you to learn more about what the obsessions are trying to do and how the compulsions are involved in that function.
In comparison to other treatments for OCD. I-CBT is highly effective in comparison to traditional CBT and talk therapy. And is a much gentler and slower treatment than ERP.
This treatment focuses on developing insight and self-trust, and using those skills to resolve the obsessional doubts that trigger your obsessive thoughts.
Which Treatment for OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is Best For You?
In our first couple of sessions, I will take the time to get to know you. During these conversations, we will talk about what has worked well and what hasn’t worked at all.
By having these conversations, we can come up with a treatment plan based on your unique needs and experiences.
Whatever path we settle on, this is just to keep us on track, and if it isn’t working, we can change directions.
Both of these treatments for OCD tend to be goal-directed and collaborative, and include thought work and introspection. But before we get into that part of the work, I make sure that I really get to know you, both your symptoms and as a person, and how your OCD is impacting your life.
The treatment plan we settle on will be based on your unique symptoms, experiences, goals, and needs.
